You have your head down and you’re focused on getting everything done.
That is the life of a business owner right?
What are you missing when you are living and working like this?
The other day I was on one of my longer runs. I took up running a couple years ago, and when I’m running I have time to think.
On this run, I had my head down and was concentrating on keeping going. I was focused on making sure I could go the distance I had planned.
Then I happened to look up, and wow, what a sight!
I was running on a state trail and off to my left was a beautiful view overlooking green fields flowing down to the lake off in the distance. There was a mist in the air, and the early morning sun shining on the scene was incredible.
If I had kept my head down and stayed focused on my running, I would have missed it all.
That was the first lesson I learned on this run.
Then a few miles later, on my way back I noticed a tractor being used as a lawn ornament.
Now, I’m not talking about a toy tractor, I’m talking about a full-size conventional tractor. I had run by from the other direction and did not even notice it.
This is another example of me having my head down and not seeing items that were just off my path.
As I had some distance yet to run, this got me thinking…
How many things do I miss in my business that are there and easy for others to see?
How much of an effect is this having on my business? What other things am I missing by keeping my head down and working hard?
And finally, how can I see more of these hidden in plain sight items?
The best way to see what you’re missing is to have others you trust, who are outside your business, take a look at your business and give you feedback.
