Who’s on first?

Yes, that’s a reference to the old Abbott and Costello routine. If you’ve never seen it or it’s been years check it out here.

It was as funny when I watched it recently as I remember it being.

Now, what’s that got to do with marketing… especially online marketing?

As you tried to keep track of who is on first and what’s on second and I don’t know on third it kind of feels like what goes where in your marketing system.

The traditional structure of online marketing goes:

  • Lead magnet
  • Entry point offer
  • Core offer
  • Maybe an upsell or two

This format has worked since long before digital marketing in one form or another, and it still works. . .

.  . . but as consumers have changes and ways of marketing have changed, there are more possibilities now.

You can market your entry point offer as your first point of contact, or you might want to promote your webinar directly to a cold/new audience, or maybe you might want to test selling your core offer, or maybe you’ll want to sell the entry point offer and then offer different lead magnets to this group so you can discover what else they will buy from you or. . .

As you can see I’ve taken the main parts from the traditional structure of a marketing process and reordered them.

Does it work?

Sometimes.

You have to test to see what works best for your audience.

The key is to open your mind to what’s possible and then make small tests to see if you can improve your results.

When you start with getting the money first by offering your entry point offer as the starting point, you get to the money faster, and that’s almost always a good thing.

However, if strangers aren’t willing to pay you money, you may have to try a different order.

Now, if this all makes your head hurt, you might want to get help with your marketing.

This is where a professional, someone who lives and breathes marketing all day, may be able to help.
